The “Phoebus” is one of Zannis Koukas’ s (a famous and respected Greek artist) best creations.
Every detail reflects perfection, aesthetic fullness and accuracy of design. It took six years for a team of craftsmen to make the necessary conversions to the hull of an old commercial ship (an engine/sail – powered “perama” built in 1948) at Tarsana on the island of Syros.
The ship’ s impressive fittings were made from scratch by the master fitter, Vangelis – Xagorari (Tsiba), one of the last and best in his field. Eventually the old ferryboat was transformed into a luxury cruise ship.
It has traces of ancient times, but it also has totally modern elements. While the ship is without a doubt a work of art, at the same time it offers sophisticated facilities capable of satisfying the most demanding of travellers, those who wish to feel in tune with Greek culture. The passengers enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime experience of vibrant colours, a variety of materials, and of forms which are both familiar yet unexpected, all worked to the limits of perfection by a subtle imagination.
